I was shocked when a friend of mine mentioned that the Arlington Museum of Art was hosting an exhibit that features the work of Salvador Dali. The exhibit has been on since October, but I just heard about it, and it ends January 21st, 2018, so you have to make a point to get there this week!
My expectations were exceeded, by far, when I thought we would maybe get to see one or two of his pieces. In fact, there were well over 100 of his woodcuts, illustrations of the Divine Comedy by Dante. These looked like watercolors, but were woodcuts, which means multiple layers per image, which means an exponentially larger amount of plates went into this massive collection. His work follows Virgil through hell, purgatory and paradise, and it is simply wonderful to see some of the imagery that Salvador Dali became known for during the Surrealist Movement show up in these images as well. No photography was allowed, so check out their website here for additional information, and then go visit!
I was pleasantly surprised, and you do not want to miss this exhibit!
