Current and Upcoming Art Classes

Art Therapy Workshops

Hosted by artist and art therapist Heidi Tournoux-Hanshaw, these art therapy workshops are designed to encourage both virtual and in person participation. Partnering with the Mansfield Commission for the Arts, in-person sessions meet at the Farr Best Theater, on stage, featuring YOU as the artist! All supplies are provided, and this is a welcome space for everyone! Clinicians and coaches that utilize mental health techniques can earn CE credits toward licensure and credentialing. Everyone is welcome!

Artist of The Tourniqué Collective

If you are an artist in the DFW area, or a patron of the Arts, check out our Collective! Co-Founded by Heidi Tournoux and Wendy Moniqué, the Tourniqué Collective is a collection of artists that have a mission to get their artwork up in the community and for sale. With 9 locations in Mansfield and Arlington, there are multiple opportunities throughout the year for both group and solo exhibitions. Everyone is welcome!

Artist Tip Corner

Have you ever wondered what it means when an art call is asking for D-Rings and Hanging Wire? And if that is even important? Well, as a curator of many shows in the Dallas/Fort Wort Metroplex, I can tell you that this is the easiest, most professional way to be sure that artwork is able to hang straight, with a smaller chance of the artwork being bumped off the wall, or the hardware failing.

First, Choose your artwork, and measure from top to bottom, and divide the measurement into thirds

For this collage in-progress, the canvas is 12″ on each side. But we are only needing to measure from top to bottom, which is 12″.

If we divide 12″ by 3, we get 4″.

Next, flip the canvas over to the back and line the ruler up with the top of the canvas, and measure down 4″ (Or whatever the magic number is that you came up with for your measurement by thirds) mark both sides of the canvas along the edge.

Now, gather the rest of your tools, a screwdriver, the D-Rings and hanging wire (Can be found online, or at your favorite hardware store)

You will use a screw and one of the D-Rings and attach the D-Ring using the screwdriver! (I like the electric one. Easy peasy)

REPEAT ON BOTH EDGES!

Next, you will want to find the end of the hanging wire, and stretch it across to ensure you have enough wire to reach from one D-Ring to the other. Cut the wire using the attached wire clipper (if you are using this brand. Otherwise an additional hand tool would be a wire snipper tool).

Thread your cut wire through both loops of the D-Rings. Try to make sure the wire is stretched evenly between both D-Rings, and fold one wire and twist the end in on itself to secure the wire. PULL TIGHT, and secure the opposite end.

Be sure that you have pulled the wire taught. The wire will stretch as the artwork hangs, but this will ensure that while hanging the artwork does not droop forward, and instead hangs as flush to the wall as possible.

This is one of the most basic ways to attach the hanging wire for quick display. We will add additional instructions at a later date for more professional backing. But for now, this should get you through to the next art show!
